Abstract

Wireless output controller for wirelessly receiving, over a wireless local area network connection, digital content from a mobile information apparatus that is within the same wireless local area network as the wireless output controller is herein disclosed and enabled. To set up the wireless output controller, the wireless output controller receives first information from a portable electronic device and then provides, in response, second information to the portable electronic device over a short range wireless connection. The wireless output controller is further operable to connect to a wireless local area network, establish a wireless communication link over the connected wireless local area network with the mobile information apparatus, transmit device dependent attributes associated with the wireless output controller to the mobile information apparatus, receive output data related to the device dependent attributes from the mobile information apparatus, and process the output data for outputting or playing at an output device.

Sample Claim

1. A wireless output controller for processing digital content that is wirelessly received from a mobile information apparatus over wireless communication, the wireless output controller including:
at least one processor; and
wireless communication circuitry that includes one or more wireless communication units for wireless communication, and wherein the wireless communication circuitry is operable to:
(1) wirelessly announce or advertise, using the wireless communication circuitry of the wireless output controller and over short range wireless communication, availability of the wireless output controller for a portable electronic device to wirelessly discover, over short range wireless communication, the wireless output controller, the portable electronic device being a separate device from the wireless output controller;
(2) wirelessly receive, using the wireless communication circuitry of the wireless output controller and over short range wireless communication, first information from the portable electronic device that has wirelessly discovered the wireless output controller in (1), and the wireless receiving of the first information is based, at least in part, on the wireless output controller having been selected by the portable electronic device for service; and
(3) wirelessly provide, using the wireless communication circuitry of the wireless output controller, from the wireless output controller, over short range wireless communication, and to the portable electronic device, second information in response to the wireless output controller having wirelessly received the first information from the portable electronic device in (2); and
wherein at least one wireless communication unit of the one or more wireless communication units included in the wireless communication circuitry of the wireless output controller is compatible, at least partly, with at least a protocol within IEEE 802.11 wireless standards for wireless local area network communication, and wherein the at least one wireless communication unit included in the wireless communication circuitry of the wireless output controller is operable to:
(i) wirelessly connect the wireless output controller to a wireless local area network using the at least one wireless communication unit of the one or more wireless communication units of the wireless output controller;
(ii) wirelessly broadcast, using the at least one wireless communication unit of the wireless output controller and over the wireless local area network connected in (i), availability of the wireless output controller for the mobile information apparatus to wirelessly discover, over the wireless local area network connected in (i), the wireless output controller, wherein the mobile information apparatus is a separate device from the wireless output controller, and the mobile information apparatus is in the wireless local area network connected by the wireless output controller in (i);
(iii) wirelessly transmit, using the at least one wireless communication unit of the wireless output controller and over the wireless local area network connected in (i), one or more device dependent attributes from the wireless output controller to the mobile information apparatus that has wirelessly discovered the wireless output controller in (ii), and the one or more device dependent attributes corresponding to the wireless output controller;
(iv) wirelessly establish, using the at least one wireless communication unit of the wireless output controller and over the wireless local area network connected in (i), a wireless communication link between the wireless output controller and the mobile information apparatus that has wirelessly discovered the wireless output controller in (ii), the wireless communication link is compatible, at least partly, with at least a protocol within IEEE 802.11 wireless standards;
(v) wirelessly receive, using the at least one wireless communication unit of the wireless output controller and over the wireless communication link wirelessly established in (iv), intermediate output data from t h e mobile information apparatus that has wirelessly discovered the wireless output controller in (ii), the wireless receiving of the intermediate output data is related to digital content for outputting or playing at the wireless output controller, and the wireless receiving of the intermediate output data being associated, at least in part, with the one or more device dependent attributes wirelessly transmitted by the wireless output controller in (iii); and
(vi) process, at the wireless output controller using the at least one processor, at least part of the intermediate output data wirelessly received by the wireless output controller in (v) into output data for outputting or playing at an output device associated with the wireless output controller, the processing includes at least one of a color operation, an image processing operation, a scaling operation, a resolution operation, an interpolation operation, a decoding operation, or an encoding operation, individually or in any combination.
